LAYALI FEBRAYER MUSIC AND POETRY FESTIVAL, KUWAIT 2012 |
For the 2012 edition of the Layali Febrayer Music and Poetry festival in Kuwait, our creative team, led by Marcos Vinals Bassols (set designer & artistic director) & Koert Vermeulen (principal lighting designer), ensured for the third time in a row an outstanding set, lighting, content and multimedia design. Layali Febrayer is Kuwait's most famous music and poetry festival and is one of the biggest events in the Gulf that gathers many prestigious artists, singers and writers in Kuwait from all over this region of the world.
In close collaboration with the producer of the show, Al Raisi Group, ACT brought a new innovative vision and carried out the challenge to renew this year’s edition of the show with a combination of the richness of the oriental culture and the minimalism of geometrical shapes. |
DISCOVER HALA PROJECT FROM BEHIND THE SCENE |
STAGE 1: LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION |
The inspiration came with the desire to bring a modern and minimalistic vision of the set design,
based on the simplicity of geometrical shapes and the complexity of the diamond structure. |
STAGE 2: CREATING SET AND LIGHTING DESIGNS |
Multiple declination of the isosceles triangles of 5 meters each led to an exceptional structure on the
ceiling. Made of triangular elements suspended in staggered rows, the installation creates a “fill
effect” between “full” and “empty” triangular spaces. Following this idea, a set of rectangular panels
encircled the stage. |
At this stage, the elements thought to be installed on the ceiling were conceived with regard to the
floor elements of the stage. Built as a set of different levels in cascade, which allowed the artists to
position themselves on several platforms. Floor stairs were filled by a network of LED flex strips and
the stage was equipped with media tubes, in a pattern that reproduced the triangular shape of the
structure installed on the ceiling. |
STAGE 3: BUILDING UP |
A set of “solid” triangles were mounted in order to touch each other at different heights, thus
multiplying the number of triangles that could be observed by the audience. The elements were
equipped on both sides by led panels and cutting edge lighting equipment. |
STAGE 4: COMPLETION & DELIVERING |
The major stake for this show was to find the right balance between the elements of a stunning
scenography backing up live performances and multimedia content. The aim was to enhance the
artistic performances and, at the same time, create an unique experience for both live and television
audience of the show. |
