After 2007 and 2009, ACT and Alice Events collaborate again on the “Electrabel Nights 2011”, creating a made to measure “son et lumière” at the Grand Place in Brussels.

The Fibonacci spiral, which is used in the architecture of the Grand Place and its surrounding buildings, is also at the very center of ACTLDs’ reflection in the design of the lighting structure and the spectacle. The fascinating theorem of the golden ratio was at the basis of our project to remind the perfect proportions of the adjacent architecture.
Focusing on the theorem, the team combined an innovative modern lighting structure, constituted by Clay Paky Sharpy’s (moving heads) and LED lines, with classical music pieces, to bring a modern vision and enhance the atmosphere of Christmas. This concept and set design resulted in a unique entertainment show, offered to the public for one month, from the 25th of November until January1st, at evening hours from 5pm until 11pm.

The Professional Lighting Design Convention is one of the most prestigious gatherings of the lighting industry. The third edition of PLDC 2011, in Madrid, gathered approximately 1230 attendees and participants from 59 countries: lighting designers, lighting industry representatives, young professionals and students exchanged their knowledge, shared the latest breaking news and presented innovative technologies.

During the PLDC, Koert Vermeulen, principal designer of ACTLD, was invited, as a key speaker, to share his knowledge with the audience about a very appealing theme:
“What you always wanted to know about Youth Olympics Games and were afraid to ask? ”
ACTLD Interview with Koert Vermeulen,
Principal Designer at ACTLD
This speech is aimed at describing plainly this kind of ambitious projects from the point of view of a lighting designer and to a answer all kind of questions raised on this topic by young lighting designers. The whole presentation of this particular and challenging professional experience gave him the opportunity to answer to the questions asked by the attendees such as:
“How can you hit the jackpot and obtain a job like this?”
“How do you approach and develop a project like that from its very first stages to the opening & closing ceremony?”
“Which were the very best or worst moments during this project?”
Koert Vermeulen collaborated with DDMC for Philips Lighting at this year's PLDC, for the creation of Philip’s exhibition booth. The latter made a great impression on the public, thanks to its exceptional concept design. The main innovative idea of this year’s stand design was to gather the fabulous traditional Dutch Delft’s Blue design ceramic, with pioneering technology solutions in lighting design, as, for example, DimTone, Designers Bulb, Lumilife, OLED and Pure Detail.
Master plan - La Louvière (project in progress)
Since 2008, ACTLD collaborates with the multidisciplinary team on urban requalification of the city master plan of La Louvière. Among the members of the team are Cooparch (architect & urban planner), D+A International (landscape architect), A&T Osborne (technical & administrative management) and ACTLD (architectural lighting).

The city master plan is divided in 4 phases. We are pleased to announce you that the first phase of the city center which included Place Communale and Place Maugrétout and the boulevard Mairaux, was inaugurated in June 2011 (cf. pictures).

Next phases which includes: place de la Louve and adjacent roads, new district including the future commercial center constructed on the ancient site of the factory Boch and the residential area, are under construction and their opening is expected in 2012-2014).
The concept design, uncluttered and modern forms of lighting sculptures inspired by the plants and modern lighting home furniture, was chosen for this master plan. The sculptures integrated perfectly in the urban landscape, creating the necessary high quality brightness to enhance space and, at the same time, intimate atmosphere for the citizens, offering an environment of well-being for the people.
