OUR NEW LIGHTING ADVENTURE WITH LA PLAGNE
BOBSLEIGH, LUGE, AND SKELETON TRACK
Given our extensive expertise in architectural & entertainment lighting and light art installations our team was commissioned by SIGP La Plagne for the feasibility study and proposal of the basic & advanced functional and event lighting of the BOB Experience - The Olympic Bobsleigh Track.
This 1500 meters long track with covered and uncovered sections offers no less than 19 bends, a total altitude drop of 124 meters and a slope that reaches 15% gradient at its steepest point. The track was the official venue for bobsleigh and luge competitions during the 1992 Winter Olympics of Albertville. Since then, this unique venue regularly welcomes the athletes before Winter Olympic Games and World Cups competitions, as well as numerous tourists and amateurs of extreme sports.

BOB RAFT   SPEED LUGE   BOB RACING
With three different types of bobsleigh, tourists can experience the speed on the Olympic circuit in La Plagne at its best. Three different options are available: bob-raft, bob-racing and speed luge.
Up to 4 persons can enojoy the ride together and for the most adventurous it is also possible to go alone without any pilot.
Trying bobsleigh in La Plagne is a once-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed, especially with a professional bobsleigh pilot to live the same conditions as in a real competition, reaching the speed of nearly 120 km per hour.

We took a general brief from the client & technical team to gather all necessary information to define the qualitative and quantitative lighting objectives, general design approach, timeframe and budgets. The on-site visits during the day and at night provided us with an overview and detailed information on all characteristics of the venue and of the entire installation to be included in the conceptual and technical approach of the project.

ANALYSIS, TESTS & WORKING SESSION
We analyzed the venue & its functioning and checked the entire track installation. We proceeded to tests, photometric studies & control, general technical evaluation of the electrical power system and relevant luminaries. We also verified the power supply & maintenance system, analyzed the landscape & preliminary lighting master plan in order to asses the feasibility of the lighting design.

ANALYSIS, TESTS & WORKING SESSION
Following our methodology, we are currently working on the feasibility study and preparing further steps of the preliminary basic & advanced functional & event lighting concept. Given the specificity of the bob track and surrounding landscape, as well as its technical requirements and fundamental rules established by IOC Committee for the Olympic Games, we are eager to deliver the best possible result for all future users, athletes or tourists.

OUR TEAM DISCOVERS THE BOB EXPERIENCE THRILLS!
For the very first time, our team went for the extreme sensations and experience the venue from the users’ point of view. From now on - we’re true fans!
Despite the presence of a professional pilot, we were not able to maintain Olympic champions look. Bumping each other and swaying the big curves of three meters high at 180 degrees going on an impressive speed, we were just astonished by the precision & control of our pilot. The true challenge consisted in holding our heads up while the G-force (2,5 of force on the body) on the big bends pushed us down while we were reaching the speed of nearly 120 km per hour.
